Local Chiropractic Classified Ad Search
I was playing around with some features of the planet chiropractic classified ad system when I discovered that you could save the results of the search string as a hardcoded URL. I knew you could already do searches while on the web site, but with the hardcoded URL you could save links to another location and basically filter the results you want to get for particular ads.
For example, I performed a search for advertisements containing the keyword “Los Angeles†and I figured out that you could save the output script as a direct link by adding some extra info after the CGI extension. What is cool about the direct link feature is that you can now include specific filtered content links such as “Chiropractic Classifieds Los Angeles†and the end user will get specific content related to the local Los Angeles area.
Here is how the link path breaks down…
URL: http://www.planetc1.com/cgi-bin/cs/cs.cgi (that will direct you to the main classified ads page)
after that you have to include the following information… ?keywords=angeles&action=search&criteria=any
don’t forget to include the “?” after cs.cgi followed by your keywords (in this case “angeles”) and then the rest of the search string.
Take a look at the following local search locations to see some examples of how complete URL string filters search results for cities and states (all searches will open in a new window)…
San Diego (notice on the output string that the URL does not contain the term “san” but results appear for the city of San Diego)
Chicago (cities like Chicago and states like Florida, Texas and Colorado are all single terms so those are easy to add to the search string)
Florida
Texas
Colorado
New Jersey (for the state of New Jersey the URL string is only displays the term “Jersey” or else the search may likely include results for places such as New York, New Mexico, and maybe even items or practices that are listed as NEW)
Here is how the output strings appear. The keywords are listed in bold and you can see that for places such as San Diego and New Jersey, the first keyword is not included in the URL string.

http://www.planetc1.com/cgi-bin/cs/cs.cgi?keywords=Florida&action=search&criteria=any
http://www.planetc1.com/cgi-bin/cs/cs.cgi?keywords=Texas&action=search&criteria=any
http://www.planetc1.com/cgi-bin/cs/cs.cgi?keywords=Colorado&action=search&criteria=any
http://www.planetc1.com/cgi-bin/cs/cs.cgi?keywords=Jersey&action=search&criteria=any
Using the examples above, one could pretty much add local information for any city or state in the USA and if there was classified advertising posted to the database the end user would get more specific filtered results then they would when just browsing through the many classified ads appearing on the web site.
I tested that out and did some searches for Atlanta (eight results found), Canada (18 results found), Hollywood (two results found), and Alaska. This is what came back when searching for the term Alaska…
Alaska No Listings Found
Your search did not return any results. Please try different keywords to locate other ads posted to our site. Click the button below to modify your search and try again.
If you wanted to add semi-specific filtered search options to place in your chiropractic web site, you would just follow the examples above and replace the city or state keyword with the keyword of your choice. This is a neat little way to offer relevant information for your local chiropractic web site pages.
